What it calculates

Our cooking converter online turns cups, tablespoons, teaspoons and milliliters into grams and back, taking the density of the ingredient into account: flour, sugar, butter, honey, rice and more.

A cup of flour weighs less than a cup of sugar, so pick the ingredient first. It's handy for recipes from other countries that give everything in cups and tablespoons.

  • Volume ↔ weight: milliliters, liters, spoons, cups ↔ grams, ounces, pounds
  • Thirteen ingredients: water, milk, flour, sugar, powdered sugar, brown sugar, butter, vegetable oil, honey, rice, salt, cocoa, oats
  • Density is accounted for: a cup of flour is lighter than a cup of sugar

How to use it

  1. Choose an ingredient.
  2. Choose the “from” and “to” units.
  3. Enter the amount.

Example

1 cup of flour= about 125 g

FAQ

Why do a cup of flour and a cup of sugar weigh different amounts?

They have different densities: flour is lighter and airier. That's why Calcie asks what you're measuring.

Which cup is it?

The US measuring cup, the one used in recipes from abroad.

How many grams are in a tablespoon?

It depends on the ingredient: a tablespoon of water is about 15 g, flour about 8 g, sugar about 13 g. Pick the ingredient in Calcie and it calculates exactly.

Does the “Cooking” mode work offline?

Yes. Calcie does all its math right on your device, so the mode works on a plane, on the subway and out of town. Nothing is sent to any server, and the answer appears instantly.

Is “Cooking” available on iPad and Mac?

Yes. On iPad the mode has its own layout with larger fields, and on a Mac with Apple Silicon Calcie runs in its iPad version and works from the keyboard. Your Premium purchase applies on every device signed in with your Apple ID.

How do I switch to the “Cooking” mode?

Open the modes menu, the icon at the top left of the calculator's main screen, and choose “Cooking”. Calcie remembers your choice: next time the app opens right in that mode.
