Calculators

Scientific

An engineering calculator for study and work: powers, roots, logarithms, trigonometry and parentheses.

This mode is free.

Try it right here

A web version of this mode is on its way, so you'll be able to calculate right on the site with nothing to install. Until then, it's waiting for you in the app.

What it calculates

A scientific (engineering) calculator online: powers and roots of any degree, natural and common logarithms, the exponential function, sine, cosine, tangent and their inverses in degrees or radians, factorial, the numbers π and e, and parentheses nested as deep as you need.

It suits school, university and engineering work: Calcie follows the order of operations and shows the whole expression at once, so a mistake in the parentheses is easy to spot. In the app, the scientific mode is free.

  • x², x³, xʸ, square and cube roots, 1/x, factorial
  • ln, log, eˣ and 10ˣ
  • sin, cos, tan and their inverses, with a degrees/radians switch
  • The numbers π and e, parentheses, and a 2nd key for a second row of functions

How to use it

  1. Turn on scientific mode in the mode menu and a function panel appears above the regular keys.
  2. Choose degrees or radians if you're doing trigonometry.
  3. Enter an expression with parentheses. Calcie follows the order of operations.
  4. Tap “=”.

Example

√(3² + 4²)= 5

FAQ

Is this mode free?

Yes, the scientific calculator is free, just like the standard one.

How do I switch between degrees and radians?

Use the Deg/Rad key on the function panel. The current mode is labeled on it.

How do I calculate a power or a root of any degree?

Enter the base, tap xʸ and enter the exponent, for example 2 xʸ 10 = 1,024. For an nth root, tap 2nd: the key changes to ʸ√x.

Does the “Scientific” mode work offline?

Yes. Calcie does all its math right on your device, so the mode works on a plane, on the subway and out of town. Nothing is sent to any server, and the answer appears instantly.

Is “Scientific” available on iPad and Mac?

Yes. On iPad the mode has its own layout with larger fields, and on a Mac with Apple Silicon Calcie runs in its iPad version and works from the keyboard. Your Premium purchase applies on every device signed in with your Apple ID.

How do I switch to the “Scientific” mode?

Open the modes menu, the icon at the top left of the calculator's main screen, and choose “Scientific”. Calcie remembers your choice: next time the app opens right in that mode.
